Every teardrop is a waterfall

Siempre he pensado que un buen grupo lo es por su directo. Todo el mundo puede hacer buena música de estudio, pero ganarse a la gente en un concierto no es fácil. Coldplay lo sabe, y por eso tienen uno de los mejores directos que he visto nunca. Su despliegue de música y sonido son alucinantes y consiguen sumergirte en la magia de sus letras a cada nota que suena.

20:50. Se apagan las luces. Esto va a empezar. Suena de fondo la música de regreso al futuro (los pelos de punta). De repente miles de luces de colores empiezan a parpadear por todo el estadio. Son las pulseras que nos han dado a la entrada que se activan cuando empieza la música. Mylo Xyloto: empieza la función.

I've always thought that a good group it is by its live. Everyone can make good studio music, but beat people at a concert isn't easy. Coldplay knows this, and that’s why they have one of the best lives that I have ever seen. Its deployment of sound and music are amazing and they are able to dive into the magic of their letters to each note sounding.


20:50. Lights off. This is gonna start. “Back to the Future” music sounds like background (goose bumps). Suddenly, thousands of colored lights start flashing throughout the stadium. They are the bracelets that we had been given at the entrance which are activated when the music starts. “Mylo Xyloto”: the function starts.

El espectáculo sigue con “Hurts Like Heaven”. Siguen haciendo un repaso por todos sus álbumes: Parachutes (“Yellow”, “Shiver”), X&Y (“In my place”), Viva la Vida (“Lost and Violet Hill”) y, para mi, su mejor álbum A Rush of Blood to the Head, con una versión de “God Put a Smile upon a Smile” o la sublime “The Scientist”. Coldplay se ha metido a todo el estadio en el bolsillo con sus balones gigantes, sus láseres, sus confetis, los brazaletes luminosos, pero sobre todo con un sonido increíble y un Chris Martin sentado al piano tocando una balada tras otra. Un regalo para los sentidos.

The show continues with “Hurts Like Heaven”. They continue with a review of all their albums: Parachutes (“Yellow”, “Shiver”), XY (“In my place”), Viva la Vida (“Lost and Violet Hill”) and, for me, their best album A Rush of Blood to the Head, with a version of “God Put a Smile upon a Smile” or the sublime “The Scientist”. Coldplay has got to the stadium in the pocket with its giant balls, their lasers, their confetti, the luminous bracelets, but above all with their incredible sound and a Chris Martin sitting at the piano playing a ballad after another. A gift for the senses.

Después, un alto en el camino: “Up in Flames” y “Us Against the World”. En vez de canciones, parece que nos estén tocando nanas para dormirnos: soporíferas. Hay que reconocer que nadie es perfecto, y el último disco de Coldplay es totalmente prescindible. Un “Viva la Vida” extraordinario nos despierta del sopor. Una pena que los franceses sean tan sosos y no sean capaces de moverse ni siquiera ante semejante himno.

Encadenamos con otro single de su nuevo disco: “Charlie Brown”. Los brazaletes se iluminan de nuevo. Durante esta canción, el decorado es sublime y brilla al igual que lo hace esta canción (de las pocas que se salvan de este álbum). “Paradise” y…Coldplay se despide. El público aplaude enérgicamente y pide un bis. Este concierto necesita un cierre redondo. Y por supuesto la banda nos complace: “Clocks”, la bellísima “Fix You” y para terminar “Ritmo de la…” quiero decir, “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall”. Chris Martin y los suyos se despiden entre ovaciones.

Then, a stop on the way: “Up in Flames” and “Us Against the World”. Instead of songs, it seems that we are playing lullabies to sleep us: soporific. I have to recognize that nobody is perfect, and Coldplay last album is totally dispensable. An extraordinary “Viva la Vida” wakes we up from the torpor. A pity that the French are so dull and are not able to move even before such an anthem.

They chained with another single for their new album: "Charlie Brown". The bracelets are illuminated again. During this song, the scenery is sublime and shines just as this song does (one of the few which can be saved from this album). "Paradise" and…Coldplay says goodbye. The public strongly welcomes and calls for an encore. This concert needs a round seal. And of course the band pleased us: "Clocks", the beautiful "Fix You" and finally "Ritmo de la…" I mean, "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall". Chris Martin and his fire between ovations.

Han pasado casi dos meses desde el concierto y me acuerdo de él con todo lujo de detalles. Creo que pasado este tiempo, y pensándolo mucho, puedo afirmar que éste ha sido el mejor concierto al que he ido nunca. Espero que vengan otros que me hagan cambiar de idea.

It has been almost two months since the concert and I remember it with all luxury of details. I think that after this time, and thinking about it much, I can say that this has been the best concert that I have never been. I hope many others are coming to make me change my mind.
